Terms of Use
Effective July 19, 2026 · Applies to the SignScan app and ssmit.app
The short version: SignScan is yours to use for anything lawful. Your documents are yours — we claim no rights to them. Buy once and the unlock is permanent on your Apple Account; subscribe and you can cancel anytime through Apple. The app places your drawn signature on documents, but it is not a certified e-signature service — for high-stakes agreements, check what your situation requires.
1. Agreement to these terms
These Terms of Use are an agreement between you and SSMIT ("we", "us"), a software studio based in Sacramento, California. They govern your use of the SignScan iOS application and the ssmit.app website (together, the "Services"). By downloading or using the Services, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, don't use the Services.
Where you obtained SignScan through Apple's App Store, Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies; if it conflicts with these terms, these terms control to the extent permitted.
2. Your license to SignScan
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use SignScan on Apple devices you own or control, as permitted by the App Store usage rules. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or lease any part of the app, and you may not reverse-engineer it except to the extent the law permits despite this restriction.
3. Purchases, subscriptions, and refunds
SignScan's paid tier ("SignScan Pro") is sold through Apple in two forms:
- One-time purchase ($34.99). A single payment permanently unlocks every Pro tool on your Apple Account. It is a lifetime license to the software as shipped, not a promise of future services.
- Monthly subscription ($4.99/month). Auto-renews monthly through your Apple Account until cancelled. Cancel anytime in iOS Settings → Apple Account → Subscriptions, at least 24 hours before the current period ends to avoid renewal.
Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase. Prices may vary by region and may change for new purchases; a change will never take away a lifetime unlock you already own. Use Restore Purchases in the app to recover your unlock on a new device. Refunds are handled by Apple under App Store policies — request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
4. Your content
Documents you scan, import, sign, or edit are yours. We claim no ownership of and no license to your content. Because processing happens on your device, we never receive it (see the Privacy Policy). You are responsible for the content you capture and what you do with it — including having the right to scan it in the first place.
5. Signatures — what SignScan is and isn't
SignScan lets you draw a signature and place it on a document, producing a signed PDF. Many everyday agreements accept exactly this. However:
- SignScan is not a certified or "qualified" electronic signature service and does not provide identity verification, audit trails, or cryptographic signing certificates.
- Whether an electronically signed document is valid for a particular purpose depends on the laws and requirements that apply to that document. That judgment — and any legal advice about it — is your responsibility, not ours.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to use the Services to:
- violate any law, or scan, alter, or sign documents to deceive or defraud;
- sign another person's name or forge any signature, seal, or stamp;
- fabricate or alter identity documents, currency, or official records;
- infringe anyone's intellectual property or privacy rights.
7. Accuracy of automated tools
Text recognition, handwriting reading, translation, table and receipt extraction, and similar features are automated and can make mistakes. They are provided as conveniences, not certified results — review anything important before you rely on it. Redaction and blur permanently modify the output copy; keep the original if you need it.
8. Our intellectual property
The Services — including the app's code, design, illustrations, icons, and the SignScan and SSMIT names — are owned by or licensed to us and are protected by intellectual-property laws. These terms give you no right to use our branding.
9. Disclaimer of warranties
The Services are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Services will be uninterrupted or error-free. Some jurisdictions don't allow certain warranty exclusions, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, SSMIT will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, or goodwill, arising from your use of the Services. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Services is limited to the amount you paid us for SignScan in the twelve months before the claim arose.
11. Termination
You can stop using the Services at any time by deleting the app. We may suspend or terminate access to the Services for a violation of these terms. Sections that by their nature should survive (your content, disclaimers, limitation of liability, governing law) survive termination.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time; the current version always lives at this page with its effective date. Material changes will be noted in the app's release notes. Continuing to use the Services after a change means you accept the updated terms.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Sacramento County, California, and you consent to their jurisdiction.
